Homework

I'll be on an open day at Reading when we're meant to hand this in, so here is the homework.

Last lesson Miss Poulten set us the task of finding two different music videos with different themes. Here are the two videos i found:

Brief: 'An interesting music video from the 1980's'

I like the use of repetition in this, and how the dance routine goes well with the music. I think the format of just changing the background with a blue or green screen is also very effective, because it is quite simple but still looks interesting.

Brief: 'A music video that you think is 'unusual' in some way'

I think this video has a really unusual use of transitions, and is also quite funny and quirky. This is something we would easily be able to achieve with the transitions in iMovie, so it is a very simple idea but also very effective.

First Lesson

In today's lesson we discussed various music videos that we can use to draw our inspiration from, including this video for Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer:

The whole thing is made out of stop frame animation, a technique that is very time consuming, as it involves putting together lots of photographs and playing them really quickly together so that the effect is more jerky than using film cameras, and seems to go well with the song. This is also a technique that we could use to create our music videos.

We then discussed how artists today are influenced by music videos from decades past, for example the video for Lady Gaga's Born This Way has lots of elements that hark back to the 1980's
